AI Search Visibility

What does AI actually say about your company as an employer?

Try asking an AI model yourself: What is [your company] like as an employer?

The answer can be surprisingly detailed. Depending on the company and the AI service, you may see references to areas such as:

  • company culture
  • career development
  • leadership
  • employee benefits
  • working environment
  • flexibility and hybrid working
  • diversity and inclusion
  • reputation
  • employee experiences
  • company values
  • opportunities and potential disadvantages

Now ask:

  • What are the disadvantages of working at [your company]?
  • How does [your company] compare with [competitor] as an employer?
  • Would you recommend [your company] to someone looking for career development?

(AI generated in Breeze)You may discover something interesting. The picture AI presents might not be the employer brand you think you have. Some information may be accurate. Some may be outdated. Some important parts of your EVP may be missing entirely.

And some of your competitors may be far more prominent in AI-generated recommendations than you are.

This is where AI visibility becomes important.

Where does AI get information about your Employer Brand?

AI does not automatically know the employer brand story you want to communicate. But if you and your company have an AI Search Visibility strategy and work actively with AEO and GEO, your content is more likely to be found when people ask for it.

Depending on the AI model and how a particular answer is generated, information can be influenced by many different sources and signals, including:

  • Your careers website
  • Company websites
  • LinkedIn and other professional content
  • Employee reviews and employer review platforms
  • News articles
  • Industry publications
  • Rankings and awards
  • Interviews with executives and employees
  • Third-party websites
  • Forums and discussions
  • Other publicly accessible information about your company

This creates an important distinction.

Your Employer Brand is no longer only what you publish about yourself.

It is also the body of information that machines can find, understand, and associate with you, and that information may come from sources you control and sources you do not.

Strong SEO does not automatically mean strong AI visibility

Most established companies have spent years improving their visibility in Google. That still matters.

But appearing prominently in traditional search results does not necessarily mean your company will be prominent when someone asks an AI assistant for employer recommendations.

Consider these two questions:

Google search: Best engineering employers - Sweden - career development
AI question: I'm an engineer considering my next role in Sweden. Which employers offer the best career development, and how do they compare?

Did you spot the difference here? With Google's answer, the candidate has to do more comparisons but with AI, the comparisons have already been done and are presented to the candidate.

The real question is: Will AI mention you? And if it does, how will it describe you?

This means HR and Employer Branding teams increasingly need to think beyond branded visibility. It is not enough to be found when candidates already know your name.

You want to be part of the answer when attractive candidates are still deciding which employers they should consider in the first place.

AI visibility and AI perception

There are really two questions to think about.

AI Visibility

How frequently does your company appear in relevant AI-generated answers and recommendations?

AI Perception

What characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses does AI associate with your company as an employer?

A company could have strong AI visibility but an inaccurate or unhelpful employer perception. Another could have an excellent Employer Brand but barely appear when candidates ask non-branded questions. Both situations deserve attention.
